Where to start? Most importantly I consider myself a spiritual person. Most of the activities and interests I engage in are related to spiritual growth. No, I am not the wispy-headed, new age spoon-bender, hippy flake that was probably called to mind when you read that. Many spiritual paths focus on reconnection with the divine, be that God, Goddess, Spirit, Daemon, or what have you. My focus is on the steps that lead me there, breaking through my perceived reality, and ascending...eventually.
I have been bellydancing for several years as a means of physical expression. It is my art, my reconnection with the earth and the practices of my distant ancestors. Bellydance is beautiful and trance-invoking, for the dancer and the spectator. Through dance I began practicing yoga, another art form that I have fallen into worship of.
I have spent the greater portion of my life practicing occult sciences and art from ceremonial magick to witchcraft. Why it wasn't just a phase, my father will never understand, but has become a way of reinventing my life, over and over again; a reason to learn my patterns and actually break them (sometimes more than once for safe measure); a way for me to be independent and yet connected to everything and everyone; more importantly, to continue my education into the greater mysteries of the universe.
I am a great participant in many counter-culture movements. Status quos much change to keep up with the times, much like religions do. When they don't, we become slaves to the machines that we built, forgetting where the emergency shut-off cord is.
